Home to St Faustina, where her apparitions of Jesus Christ inspired the Roman Catholic church’s devotion to the Divine Mercy. Also, home to beloved St John Paul II, Poland offers a vast wealth of history and culture. Poland was the home of the very much-loved St. John Paul II. He was a key figure of the twentieth century serving one of the most popular pontificates in the history of the Roman Catholic Church. St. John Paul II continues to draw pilgrims to his homeland in search of prayer and pilgrimage. Far from being the only attraction, however, our Poland Pilgrimage itineraries also offer religious devotion in the Divine Mercy Sanctuary, royal history in Wawel Castle, protected heritage in the Wieliczka Salt Mine, and solemn reflection on humanity in Auschwitz.
UK/ Krakow/Wawel Cathedral/St Mary’s Basilica/Kazimierz
Depart UK for our flight to Krakow . Upon arrival, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel in Krako w, one of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities. We have lunch in Krakow’s famous square, followed by a guided walking tour of Krako w’s UNESCO-listed Old Town. Highlights include the magnificent St. Mary’s Basilica (Mass only if possible), renowned for its stunning Gothic interior, and the historic Wawel Cathedral, the spiritual centre of Poland and the site of many royal coronations and burials. Your tour will also take you through Kazimierz, the city’s historic Jewish Quarter, where centuries of Jewish and Christian history intertwine. Return to our hotel and dinner here.
Wieliczka Salt Mine - Czestochowa
After breakfast we travel by coach to visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine (a UNESCO world heritage site). There we will travel underground for approximately 2km to the oldest part of the mine and visit its subterranean museum. This mine has been worked for 700 years until the present day. We then journey by coach to Czestochowa - Home of the Miraculous Icon of Our Lady, known as the Black Madonna, the Queen of Poland. This is considered the holiest place in Poland and is the third largest Catholic pilgrimage site in the world. The sanctuary is in the Pauline Monastery in Jasna Góra, which has been a major destination of pilgrimages for centuries. We will celebrate Mass here. Travel back to the hotel and evening dinner at a local restaurant.
Auschwitz Birkenau (or Oswiecim town) / The Divine Mercy Sanctuary
We have breakfast and travel by coach to Auschwitz Birkenau, visiting the former concentration camp which was the scene of terrible human suffering during the Second World War. We see the cell of St Maximillian Kolbe where he died giving up his life to save another. (Auschwitz is not suitable for visitors under 15 years of age). For those who feel that a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum may be too emotionally distressing, there will be an alternative option. During this time, they will be able to visit the historic town centre of Oswiecim and the smaller Remembrance Museum of the Land of Oswiecim Residents, which presents the history of the local area during the Second World War in a gentler and less overwhelming way. Then we travel to visit the world-famous Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, where St. Faustina Kowalska received the revelations of Divine Mercy. Mass will be celebrated here followed by a talk with one of the nuns resident to the sanctuary, about St Faustina’s life. There will be time for prayer at the shrine and at the tomb of Saint Faustina Kowalska. Continue to the nearby Shrine of Saint John Paul II, dedicated to one of the most beloved popes in modern history. Return to our hotel and dinner here.
Wadowice / Kraków town Centre
After the breakfast we drive to Wadowice, the hometown of St John Paul II. We have free time for lunch followed by a visit to the Holy Father’s House, now a museum, and the parish church where he was baptised. It is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Poland. We will celebrate Mass here. Return to Kraków for the afternoon and free time in Kraków town centre (or possible catch up form the first day), dinner in the hotel.
Krakow/ Sanok /Przemysl
Following breakfast, depart Krako w and travel through the picturesque countryside of southeastern Poland towards the beautiful Bieszczady region. En route, we visit the renowned Museum of Folk Architecture in Sanok, one of Europe’s largest open-air museums. Explore traditional villages, historic wooden churches, and examples of the region’s rich religious and cultural heritage. Later, travel to the historic city of Przemysl for a guided tour. Highlights include the impressive Przemysl Cathedral, the beautiful Orthodox Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, and the fascinating Archdiocesan Museum in Przemysl, offering insight into the region’s Catholic and Eastern Christian traditions. Mass in the Cathedral/ or Major Seminary Chapel. Then check-in to 3-star hotel, dinner and overnight in Przemysl.
Solina Lake and Przemysl Zagórz, Solina Lake
After breakfast, we travel by coach to the scenic Solina Lake, where you will enjoy a relaxing boat cruise and admire the stunning landscapes of the Bieszczady region. Around 3.30pm we would go via Zagórz to the Shrine of Our Lady of New Life for the 4.30pm Mass, and go back to Przselm foyr dinner.
Rzeszów-Jasionka/UK
After breakfast, we check-out of our hotel and depart for our flight back to the UK.
