Blessed Carlo Acutis will be the first Saint this Millenium, making this a truly memorable occasion and not one to miss! We will visit St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and have a chance to walk through the Holy Door. Jesus was quoted saying "I am the gate. Whoever enters through me, will be saved" (Jn 10:9). Plenary indulgence can be gained by entering through the Holy Door. We will also visit the Basilica of St Mary Major, walking through the Holy Door here and viewing the final resting place of Pope Francis. In Assisi, the historical city pervaded by the spirit of St. Francis, we have a guided tour of the Basilicas of St Francis and St Clare and view Blessed Carlos Acutis’ tomb.

Daily Itinerary
Day 1, Friday 5th September

London - Rome - Perugia (near Assisi)

Depart London Stansted on our direct flight to Rome. The provisional flight departure time is 16:00 arriving in Rome at 19:25. We will be welcomed in the Arrivals Terminal by our tour representative and our executive coach and driver. Transfer to Perugia (near Assisi) where we will stay for the first night of our pilgrimage. Check-in and overnight.

Day 2, Saturday 6th September

Assisi - Rome

After breakfast, we will check out and then meet our local tour escort in the hotel lobby and our coach driver and transfer to Assisi. We meet our professional English-speaking tour guide and begin our tour with the Basilica of St Clare which houses her incorrupt body. Clare of Assisi left her family’s palace in 1212 and was received by St Francis (with other young women) at the Porziuncola, thereafter establishing the Order of Poor Clares. One of the chapels here contains the crucifix that bowed its head and ordered St. Francis to “repair God’s Church.” Afterwards, we visit St Mary Major Parish in Assisi, also known as the Shrine of the Renunciation, which refers to the time when St. Francis stripped himself of his clothing in front of his father as a way of renouncing his wealth. The tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis currently resides here; Carlo Acutis, who had a passion for computers and the Eucharist, died at the young age of 15 in 2006 from leukemia. We will then tour the Basilica of St Francis, built in 1228 to house the Relics of the saint. The “upper” basilica houses beautiful frescoes of Giotto. Mass here followed by free time for lunch, personal devotion or time to explore the pretty hilltop town of Assisi. After our free time, we return to our coach and transfer to Rome for the final 2 nights of the pilgrimage. Upon arrival in Rome, we check in to our hotel which is in an excellent location, only a 29-min walk to St Peter’s Square. After check-in, we’ll enjoy evening dinner together as a group in the hotel (included in price).

Day 3, Sunday 7th September

Rome - The Canonisation of Blessed Carlo Acutis + St Peter’s Basilica & Walking Through the Holy Door

Blessed Carlo Acutis, born in London on 3rd May 1991, will be the first Saint this Millenium, making this a truly special occasion and not one to miss. This once in a lifetime experience will create ever-lasting memories and will attract pilgrims from all over the world to witness this momentous occasion. Blessed Piergiorgo Frassati will also be canonised on this day. After the ceremony with Pope Leo XIV, we have free time or the option to walk through the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica; the pilgrimage will start at Piazza Pia and the group will walk from Piazza Pia with large wooden cross to St Peter’s Basilica before walking through the Holy Door. Afterwards, we will have free time in the basilica, the largest of all the Catholic churches. We can explore this wonderful basilica and the grounds and visit the Crypt and view the tombs of St Peter and recent Popes. Mass will be arranged.
